The warm-up session in preparation for the British Grand Prix gave the drivers an appetizer of what might welcome them this afternoon... English rain! The meteorologists had predicted it and their prediction came out. One could then wait ofcourse for some skidding action. First victim was Ricardo Rosset who touched the tyre wall. Damon Hill lost his front wing after a collision with a Stewart. Unfortunately Jos Verstappen was one of the rain victims as well. When coming up the straight he was a bit too fanatical with the accelerator and skidded off the track. Last victim was Pedro Diniz.

In the end it were ofcourse the McLaren's again that were all powerful. David Coulthard was the bravest and the fastest with a time of 1:37.910, followed by his mate Mika Hakkinen with a time of 1:37.921. Third was Giancarlo Fisichella, fourth Eddie Irvine, fifth Michael Schumacher and sixth Alexander Wurz. Jos Verstappen was 17th despite his slip off the track with a time of 1:43.305, teammate Rubens Barrichello was 14th in 1:42.530. For a complete overview of all times you can take a look at our season page.

Ralf Schumacher en Olivier Panis will start at the back of the grid because the cars did not comply to FIA-regulations. Article 13.3 says that the driver must be able to step out of the car with both legs at the same time. After technical inspection this was not the case for the cars of Ralf en Olivier. A number of drivers, also Jos Verstappen and Rubens Barrichello, will therefore shift two places up the grid.
