Max Mosley, president of the FIA, has advised the Williams team today, at a media congress in Munich, to withdraw their appeal against the disqualification of Jacques Villeneuve in the Japanese Grand Prix of last weekend. Mosley said that Jacques risks further suspension that could rule him out of the last race of this season at Jerez, Spain, if he plans to go ahead with the appeal. Mosley said that "I can imagine that he will only lose the two points if he withdraws his appeal".

The International Court of Appeal will meet in Paris on Tuesday, 21 October 1997 to examine the appeal of Williams against what is known as 'decision N° 7 of the stewards of the meeting for the Japanese Grand Prix', ignoring the yellow flag at the Saturday free practice. If Villeneuve would loose two points and the chance to race in Jerez then Michael Schumacher will be the 1997 World Champion.
