The first free practice this morning for the last grand prix this year at Jerez, showed the same as we have seen so many times this year. The drivers were waiting for the second part of the session, before entering the track. The Williams Renault of ..... Frentzen was fastest in the first session in 1:23.458, followed by the Ferrari of Michael Schumacher in 1:23.532. Hakkinen, Ralf Schumacher, Irvine and Hill completed the top six. Villeneuve was a bit dissapointing at position seve.

10 Minutes before the end of the practice, both Tyrrels clocked their first lap times. Jos did very well. At first he clocked the eighth time in a field of 20 drivers. His 1:25.327 wqas good for position 13 and also the best time set with a Ford engine. Salo drove with 1:25.993 to position 17.
