Max after Friday at the Nurburgring: 'We should not dream'

Published on 09 October 2020 by Kees-Jan Koster

At the end of the first two free practise session for the Eifel Grand Prix, which were both cancelled, Max spoke to Olav Mol for the TV programme Formula 1 Café, which is shown every Friday at 22.30 during the Formula 1 season on Ziggo Sport channel 14 and Ziggo Sport Select.

“This is not so bad”, says Max after the two rained out free practice session at the Nürburgring. “There is less data and less time for people to get to know the track. We especially miss data to setup the engine and how to use the energy.”

Max continues: “I only drove here in a Formula 3 car, both on a wet and dry track, and that went pretty okay. Only in the second race, when we were in the lead, the engine blew. But the speed was good.”

At the question how Max views the departure of Honda from F1 he says: “Quite relaxed really. I cannot influence it, they are very busy to find a solution. It is a pity that Honda stops, but we still have one and a half year to do some good, and that is what we are going to do. We will see what happens after that. Next year we will have a new engine and they continue to work hard. That will not be a problem. After that, we will have to see and it will not help to speculate.”

“Tomorrow in the third free practice session we will do some more laps to get to know the track, as I have never driven here in a Formula 1 car. We have a chance to get on the podium, but we should not dream. We are too slow in general. We will need some luck to win the race, in the rain and on a dry track. I do not mind if it is dry or wet”, concludes Max.
