Pirelli announces tyre choices Japanese Grand Prix

Published on 03 October 2019 by Mike Motilall

Pirelli, Formula 1’s sole tyre supplier, have announced the tyre choices the different teams have made for the Japanese Grand Prix. On the home turf of engine supplier Honda, the teams have at their disposal the C1-, C2- and C3-tyres, that are respectively striped white, yellow and red.

Mercedes is the only team that has taken eight sets of the softs to Suzuka. The German squad has gone for the most reserved strategy. Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will also be running on one set of the hards and four sets of the mediums. Renault and Haas both appear to have gone for the most aggressive approach having selected no less than ten sets of the softs. Moreover, Nico Hülkenberg has only one set of the medium compound.

The rest of the field, including Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, has gone for a more even selection of tyres. Max Verstappen has nine sets of the softs at his disposal during the race weekend in Asia. Team mate Alexander Albon and Ferrari have also taken the same route.
