Tanabe of Honda after victory Austria: 'A new beginning'

Published on 03 July 2019 by Kees-Jan Koster

The last victory of Honda in the Formula 1 dates from 2006, when Jenson Button won the Hungarian Grand Prix. Until Sunday when Max Verstappen drove the RB15, powered by the Japanese engine supplier, after an incredible race in Austria to victory.

Technical director of Honda, Toyoharu Tanabe, is very grateful that the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing driver won: “Finally! This victory feels as a new beginning. This is also a way to thank all our fans around the world, who always kept supporting us. We are back in Formula 1 since 2015, but this feels as a new beginning. We will keep working hard this season and next year to keep improving the engine.”

“Finally we made it, but Honda did not do this alone. I want to thank all the staff who have worked so hard to achieve this, but also Toro Rosso who have shown us the right direction. Now we can enjoy and celebrate, but we need to continue to work hard as soon as possible. The gap towards the quickest teams still need to be closed.”
