Frits van Amersfoort positively baffled

Published on 11 April 2014 by Stefan Meens

After a successful shakedown at the Czech circuit of Most and the official pre-season tests in Hungary and Austria, Van Amersfoort Racing prepares for the Euro F3 opener at Silverstone, April 18 and 19. The team has signed the talented Max Verstappen for the 2014 season. So far, the collaboration with the Dutchman has proved fruitful with fast lap times throughout the test sessions.

After an intense period of pre-season preparation, team boss Frits van Amersfoort reflects: “Everyone is exhausted after the hectic test schedule but it was worth it when looking at the results. We have discovered some interesting things following the problems we experienced on the first test day at the Red Bull Ring. Therefore, the test proved really valuable. The atmosphere in the team has quickly turned optimistic again.”

Max has shown an enormous amount of talent and pace in the F3 tests so far. Nevertheless, Van Amersfoort remains realistic: “Like his dad, Max just gets in the car and does an amazing job, it is truly baffling. It has been a while since I’ve witnessed that from this close. I’m therefore looking forward to the upcoming season.”

Despite the positive vibe in the team, the veteran team owner remains cautious: “I’m a little bit nervous ahead of Silverstone, it remains the domain of the English. Therefore, we’ll keep our feet firmly on the ground. Even more so as we have to prove ourselves in two twenty minute qualifying sessions. Max is new to this type of format and anything can happen. However, as we have seen over the pre-season testing period, there will be success this season. Either long or short lived.”
