Max Verstappen at CIK-FIA European Championship

Published on 27 July 2011 by Niels Hendrix

Max and Jos Verstappen moved to the Spanish circuit of Zuera to remain there for several days, given the two major events in quick succession planned in its racing calendar. Before the WSK Euro Series final round, to be held on 29, 30 and 31 July 2011, there was the European CIK-FIA European Championship to animate the world of karting the previous weekend. Max performed outstandingly in KF3 and came very close to a podium finish and proved once more that CRG remains at the top internationally thanks to the continuous technical evolution of the Italian products.

The Dutch karter was one of the most brilliant in qualifying. Forced to start from the 7th row after a difficult timed qualifying session, Max showed some superb passing. Climbing to 3rd, 2nd, 1st and 7th in succession, and not without posting the fastest lap in the race, he secured a place on the first outside row of the pre-final grid. But then he was crashed into on the second bend and was knocked down to 27th on the first passage.
He turned the following eight laps to good account to climb to 16th, posting lap times that would have certainly allowed him to win this first major challenge.

"I sincerely believe that the podium was still accessible. In the final, I was indeed 9th after the first lap when a driver sent me spinning by hitting me from behind. I concluded with a 14th place and a lot of regrets because victory was really within my reach!" commented Max.

Winner of the WSK Euro Series in 2010, Max Verstappen in KF3, will look to defend his crown on 31 July in Zuera, at the final round of this prestigious Championship. The CRG team will definitely not lack motivation in Zuera!
