With the smallest difference possible, 0.001 seconds, Mika Hakkinen was fastest (1.15.428) in the warmup. Michael Schumacher was second. Jos came fifteenth in 1.17.120 after 14 laps.

Remarkable was Ralf Schumacher's position; 17th. Probably the Michelin tyres are to blame, they do not perform too well in cool circumstances. The first driver on Michelin tyres, Pedro de la Rosa, we find on position 8.
